History

1977
The Merak Corporation came into existence. The starting capital base was 2.000.000 BEF (49.579 Euro).

1985/1986
Following an extensive analysis in 1985 concerning records management, the records storage department began operations in 1986. The objective: to store and manage all kinds of information carriers according to the wishes of the customer and the specific requirements of the carrier type.

1990
Merak constructed a specially designed vault, and that same year, the Off-Site Media Storage section began operation.

1993/1994
To insure that all activity be consistently and faultlessly carried out, even during a period of rapid expansion, the management decided in 1993 to do what it would take to be awarded the internationally recognized quality certification ISO 9002. In 1994, after the very first inspection, Merak n.v. was awarded this certification.

2001
To sustain growth, several increases in the capital base were arranged. At the end of 2001, the total capital base had grown to 750.000 Euro. In this same year, substantial investments were made to start the Document Scanning section.

2003
Merak opens a new vault which offers comprehensive and outstanding protection for magnetic carriers and vital documents. The total storage capacity of hard copy records is increased to 640.000 running meters of archives. An three years’ investment program of 10 million Euro is completed in this year.

2005
The technical capabilities of the section Document Scanning are substantially improved.

2008
In March 2008, Merak was, as the fourth company in Belgium, awarded the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 IT safety certification. Also in March 2008, an independent audit confirmed Merak compliant with the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry – Data Safety Standards) as effective on January 1, 2008.

Merak has operative locations in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Mechelen and Zurich.
