Electronic archiving vs. back-up management
An electronic archive is not just a back-up. The latter is an instantaneous record of the active electronic documents, to restore the computers in the event of a calamity. An electronic archive is much more: it includes all the e-documents, active or inactive. These can be original electronic files (i.e. Word or Excel) as well as digitized paper documents (i.e. scanned files of blueprints).
Though still often maintained separately, an electronic archive can now be readily integrated with a document management system (DMS) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) such as SAP.

Automatic indexing for electronic archiving
Uniform documents (i.e. invoices) are indexed based on fixed fields or using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Or, if requested, completely read it so that a comprehensive search can be made of any word in the text. A unique barcode forms the link between the digital and the original document. Merak’s Inventory Online-software integrates all the data and loads it onto the Merak web-servers or onto your own computer system
Motor and fuel for electronic archiving
The end-user notes nothing of what is happening ‘under the bonnet’. Using his internet browser he can immediately call up the scanned document, and, as needed, e-mail to a co-worker, branch office or agent. And should he need the original, a click is all that is needed and the Merak courier will deliver it pronto.
Does the client employ a document management system of perhaps SAP? Merak sees to it that its capacity is fully utilized. The electronic documents are correctly ‘fed’ into the system in timely fashion. Your ERP/DMS system is like the motor and Merak delivers the fuel to keep it running smoothly. ‘Tanking up’ can be done by your own personnel or by a Merak expert.
